2006 Kennedy School Graduates Awarded Diplomas
June 8, 2006 -- Members of the Kennedy School Class of 2006 received their diplomas during graduation ceremonies in Cambridge this afternoon. More than 500 diplomas were awarded before hundreds of friends and family members in JFK Park.
Dean David Ellwood congratulated the graduates, urging them to aim high in their public service in the years ahead.
John F. Kennedy said we should go to the moon not because it is easy but because it is hard, Ellwood said. And you will need to be bold in your vision and willing to risk failure. If you've never failed you haven't aimed high enough.
Ellwood also reminded the graduates to remember the people with whom they learned and for whom they will serve.
You are the most international school at Harvard with 43% of you coming from countries outside the United States, he said. Keep those connections. You will need them going forward.
Thursday's ceremony was the culmination of three days of events honoring Kennedy School graduates. The graduation address was delivered Wednesday by Ela Bhatt, the gentle revolutionary known for her work in the field of grassroots development.
